Custom DNS option not working !
Hi. I tried your application on my Android vevice Honor 8X with Android version 9.0.1 It really great ! Thank you too much for it !
However, it seem that custom dns option does not working currently ! I tried Mozilla Cloudflare:
https://mozilla.cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query
but it did not work, when I used https://ipleak.net when detect my ISP DNS !
Using built-in addresses are working okay .....
Best.
Sorry, I can't reproduce this error. Could you try again? You can check the "show recent queries" box at the bottom of the main Intra screen to see whether Intra is capturing the device's DNS queries correctly.
@bemasc I tried as you asked me: your application show me that every thing is okay BUT THIS IS WRONG because https://ipleak.net show my ISP DNS !
By the way, I would like to ask: which is better for privacy CleanBrowsing DNS or PowerDNS ?
I think the most likely explanation is that ipleak.net has cached the result from a previous run. This could be due to browser caching, or it could be due to system DNS caching. If you can find a way to clear all the caches, or if you wait long enough, you should see that ipleak.net indicates the correct DNS server.
To assess the privacy benefit of different servers, you should read their privacy policies. All of Intra's built-in servers have a published privacy policy.
@bemasc No it is not browser cache issue simply because I set my browser by default to remove cache on exit. However, I tried to do manual removal (of already empty cache) to be sure 1000% then tried again & same result ! I think it is ROM specific. As you know Android ROMs came customized by the manufacturer companies of devices .....
@Nokia808 - The system caches DNS results as well, not just the browser
Hi. Due to significant of this issue, I test it after perform a wipe data, then wipe cash from recovery then reinstall application & tried again but got same result !
Please notice that to avoid any possible error, I set the Android Custom encrypted DNS setting (that use DoT) to DoT after format my device BEFORE 1st connection to WiFi after wiping when I opened Google play to install Intra again & by this way I avoided any possible cache for my ISP DNS ...... Then after, I disabled Custom DNS built-in for DoT, while I was switch Wifi OFF, then test your application again. So, no any doubt that we deal with bug. However, since you failed to reproduce this issue, I have strong feeling that it is a ROM specific issue ......
Best.
The strange thing about this report is that the rest of the system has no way to distinguish whether Intra is using a "built-in server" or a "custom server". Thus, it's hard to explain why you would see different behavior depending on how you configure Intra. Internally, Intra treats custom servers and built-in servers almost identically, so it's also hard to explain why Intra would behave differently.
What IP address do you see for the DNS server from ipleak.net, when Intra is enabled with the custom server? Could you send a screenshot?
