Port this to Kotlin

This would be a nicer framework if modernized and written in Kotlin.

I'm planning to make it compatible with Kotlin code, may be even in 2.0. What kind of Kotlin-specific feature do you expect?

Kotlin is planned to be supported in version 3 (that is currently developed).
