Well yeah, it's just a shortcut to the model manager

Well yeah, it's just a shortcut to the model manager

it creates more confusion i think make it a instance manager will be better so users can quickly toggle between gemini to ollama and ollama to maybe some other api providers.

I think I want to leave it as is honestly

even i make mistake click on that and again exit and change instance from the manager having a icon which does not do anything is bad design choice

well it does something, it opens the model manager

hmm but the model manager itself do nothing. not very useful or thoughtful to user. as it does not select models or do anything just see the list of the models.

Will you consider make that icon a instance manager shortcut instead model manager.

Honestly, I believe the button itself makes perfect sense to quickly pull up the model manager, but a button to the instance manager wouldn't hurt either.

@olumolu you can quickly pull up the Instance manager with CTRL+I already.

Is an extra button up there worth it? Any opinions on this?

Tell me one thing opening model manager what you can do suppose you have deepseek v3 opened you want to switch to r1 you can do it with model manager you have to click on the drop menu and select the model so having a model manager that does nothing make no sense.

Yes i would love to have one but a really good icon is needed to a have a button in this case.

Tell me one thing opening model manager what you can do

You can manage models. Download new ones, change pictures, remove old ones, create from installed ones - all of those are things commonly needed and certainly rectify having a button for.

really good icon is needed

I believe it's going to be hard finding a good icon for "instances". Maybe something like a server symbol or anything? @Jeffser what do you think about an extra button? I remember you saying that you don't want to further clutter the bar at the top with extra stuff, but maybe I am wrong.

this only useful if you use ollama but if you use api this model manager does not have anything to do

finding icons is not a big deal but copy right and licensing stuff comes with, it is something need to be looked for

The icons are provided by GNOME afaik, but as long as we don't know whether Jeffry is okay with that we don't need to go any deeper than that for implementation-specific stuff

yes if it is ollama specific it is totally ok but as we now support api that model button is not useful in api only instance

True

The instance manager does have an icon

I'm not going to change it either way for now
