copying verticies after making a face with verticies corrupts the project

What are you trying to do, and what do you expect to happen?

edit mesh in vertex mode, make a face via selecting vertices. now copy some vertices and paste them, it asks for what type to paste. both end with nothing pasting and the project getting corrupted if you save. hit undo to prevent the save from corrupting.
