Variant: Zombie Go
Every N turns, M green zombie stones are placed at random. If a stone is horizontally, vertically, or diagonally adjacent to a zombie stone for more than X turns, the stone becomes a zombie stone.
For less randomness, zombies should be either placed by players and/or in the beginning; then there could be trade-offs and forced moved during the game into the zombies.
It could also be "tainted intersections" or "virus zones" rather than zombie stones.
This could be a case for feature of coloring not only stones but also background.
