EspHome update 2025.3.1 - Smart Plug OTA image now too big!
Hi James,
I hope this is the right place to raise this. I updated ESPHome to V2025.3.1 yesterday and now I cannot update either of the LocalBytes Smart Plugs I bought from you as it seems the OTA image will no longer fit in the memory space available.
Config file is here:
And log file is here:
The changes in V2025.3.1 look innocuous enough to me, see below:
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I've just found there's a LocalBytes Forum where @geekydrewbie posted on the same/similar issue 2 days ago with the title "Reset ESP SmartPlug", so I'll give that a go now.
UPDATE: Yes, that worked OK for both of my Smart Plugs, though people with many of them are going to find it a tad tedious. Looking forward to seeing what long term solution comes out of the PR's that @MichaelMKKelly has submitted
yeah dropping ipv6 support seems to be the more popular option currently https://github.com/LocalBytes/esphome-localbytes-plug/pull/12 because the other option will probably effect more people. specially short term if they are not expecting it. https://github.com/LocalBytes/esphome-localbytes-plug/pull/13
please do join the conversation over there if you have a preference either way
Hi @ProphetOfDoom Sorry for the delay. I've just tried to update one of my plugs on 2025.4.0, and it flashed fine, with no changes to the yaml. Are you still experiencing this issue?
Hi @JamesSwift
I'm also running ESPHome 2025.4.0 and it looks like IPv6 support was removed last month (see https://github.com/LocalBytes/esphome-localbytes-plug), so I no longer need to disable it in my individual device configs.
I've just removed the lines that disable IPv6 from the config files for the four ESPHome devices I have and they've all compiled, uploaded and installed OK.
With that in mind, it may be worth mentioning on your Web store that there's now no IPv6 support for these plugs.
