[Feature Request] Render elements next to features

Open caioluis opened this issue 3 months ago • 2 comments

I'm new to terra-draw and drawing on maps, so my suggestion may sound ridiculous given the limitations of it. My questions is if we could render elements, like a label, on top/aside/next to features.

A visual example of what I'm suggesting: Image

If this is possible, but not yet implement, I'd love to have this issue assigned to me and contribute, not only to learn more, but to help with the project.

Hey @caioluis - thanks for your interest in the project! Apologies for taking to while to get back to you here. What you are describing is probably a useful feature for a lot of people. However I've added the 'large effort' label due to the difficulty I think this would entail. There's a few things to consider:

  • Can every adapter support such labels?
  • Which functionality can they support (colours, size, fonts, offset etc)
  • How would we expose this functionality for library users?

Hopefully this isn't disheartening and maybe helps you in your thinking on the issue. I do think something like this could be explored but it won't be something I personally work on straight away. I'm currently looking into #613 which has a bit of overlap to this feature.

Hi @JamesLMilner, thanks for you answer! Don't worry about the time it took, I was busy as well.

Although this is a large effort, I think I will separate some time to research this every day. Hopefully I can share some useful findings with the project over the next few weeks. Can't promise it will be quick due to work and life, but I'll do my best.

I'll keep your considerations in mind during my research. Cheers!
