setting font , font size and area of text annotations

I'm not seeing how to set the font or font size for annotations. Is this a missing function? I notice that when creating a text annotation, the size of the box that holds the annotation can be smaller than the actual size of the text. There doesn't appear to be a way to adjust this size after making the annotation either.
