No output on GS4
Because Samsung's guys love change things, there is no log with 'Start proc...' in the GS4's logcat (and probably other samsung's devices).
So the regexp PID_START does never match and so there is no ouput when launching pidcat.sh on a GS4.
I tried to find the corresponding translation but failed.
I understand if you don't want to fix that issue, it's so boring... I just wanted to point it.
I don't have a GS4. Someone else can send a pull request to support whatever format their devs needlessly changed the process creation log line to.
It seems the Start proc... is replaced by something like
D/ActivityManager( 778): Trying to launch <package>/.<Activity>
But there is no PID here so I presume this is too poor.
@tbruyelle can you paste a full example of that line?
One thing we could do is buffer the log messages when that line is detected and use ps to look up the process. Once it's found, we could replay the buffer to catch up to real time. This way we wouldn't lose any info.
@JakeWharton I try, but this damned GS4 logs more lines per minute than a professional writer during all his life. It's crazy to realize the amount of traces the Samsung's developers added to the sources...
Actually I was wrong in my previous message, after force kill my app and cold start, the only line which contains the package is the following :
V/SmartFaceService - 3rd party pause( 785): onReceive [android.intent.action.ACTIVITY_STATE/com.comalia.gesicamobile/create]
HTH, on my side I gave up on watching GS4 logs. Thanks for keeping hope.
I'm also having this problem on the S4... Perhaps pidcat could have a flag to just show all the logs without filtering? (I generally use pidcat just for its wonderful formatting, not as much for the filtering.)
@paleozogt It already does that when you don't supply a package
but it doesn't for the S4. it just shows absolutely nothing.
Same happens to the S3 when no package it´s supplied. I´m trying to find the cause searching on Samsungs tons of logs.
I have been seeing that as well on the Samsung Note 2 and 3 as well as the Motorola DROID MAXX. I can't seem to get pidcat to produce any output at all.
Let me know if i can provide any logs for any of the devices to help out.
@JakeWharton Maybe this is helpful. I noticed that logcat-color has an output for in my case a Samsung YP-GI1 while pidcat has none.
working greatly on my Nexus 7 2013 but no output on Galaxy S4 yet
hi,JakeWharton: I'm also having this problem on my S4,coolpad phone is ok.
See #76 for a possible solution!
I believe this may be a duplicate of #20 or vice versus. Please try the fix here: #152
