Google Hangouts doesn't work

Open vijaythakkar opened this issue 7 years ago • 17 comments

It appears that Google Hangouts wants to install a plugin but can't, so video calls no longer work. This is on OSX El Capitan 10.11.3

I'm having the exact same problem. But I'm using Sierra 10.12.4

Any ideas @JadenGeller ?

Do they work in Safari?

stek29 avatar May 04 '17 13:05 stek29

yep. tried logging in there too, still didn't work in helium

@luckey01 Hm. Maybe it's caused by custom user agent? Are you using the MAS version or self-built/ from releases section? I think MAS version doesn't use private apis to set the useragent. Also, what's the exact page? Doesn't look like https://hangouts.google.com/.

  • I'm not sure what MAS is, (MAS is also a pretty common ackronym...), but i am just using the version from here: http://heliumfloats.com/

The screen looks like the one in the issue description (except in German as i'm in Berlin)

@luckey01 MAS is Mac App Store

The screen looks like the one in the issue description

I meant "what's the exact URL?"

stek29 avatar May 04 '17 16:05 stek29

ah yep. ok so i did click on the link that took me to the apple store. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/helium/id1054607607?ls=1&mt=12

Are you saying that there might be another version that does support hangouts....?

luckey01 avatar May 05 '17 10:05 luckey01

@luckey01 I don't know. How do you even open Hangouts? For me the site looks completely different (material) Could you try version from releases page

stek29 avatar May 05 '17 10:05 stek29

ok thanks. i'll check it out

luckey01 avatar May 05 '17 10:05 luckey01

@luckey01 @vijaythakkar You could try this version It has different useragent, maybe it would be enough to solve the issue.

stek29 avatar May 10 '17 00:05 stek29

Yep, perfekt.

danke sehr

luckey01 avatar May 10 '17 07:05 luckey01

@luckey01 you're welcome

stek29 avatar May 10 '17 10:05 stek29

ok so with the releases version I can log into hangouts.google.com and do text messages but I can't start a video or audio hangout

This seems to be a more general problem, I can't find an example of HTML5 accessing the webcam that works with Helium e.g. https://codepen.io/blaberus/pen/raGdBG

This is Helium 3; I loaded your URL but unsure what I'm supposed to see?

If you load that URL in a web browser (e.g. Chrome) you will need to approve a request to access the camera. Then you should see video from your webcam.

Ah thanks; I'm battling with High Sierra - which broke quite a bit, but at least I have a path to triage. Dialog never appears correctly in Safari - no ability to allow camera, and when 'Open in Helium' is picked there I do not see the window - but this is a High Sierra issue; In Helium 3, when opened directly in Helium 3 (%L) the window appears but no access dialog. Anyway, I'll play a bit once I deal with my High Sierra (drag-n-drop is broke) issue(s).
