for nesting for vinyl cutters / printers do options exist to?

nest within grid? where nested svgs are nested only horizontal or vertical?

keep svgs as graphics. assuming we are trying to nest svg of git hub logo, apple logo, ubuntu logo, and facebook logo, and each is made from multiple paths and groups can nesting be set to keep artwork the same ? in other words nest using the outer bbox or size?

it sounds like you might be looking at nesting for graphics or layout purposes. Something like http://packery.metafizzy.co/ might be more applicable.

I'm not too familiar with vinyl cutters/printers, it's not clear to me what nesting within a grid would look like?

currently svgnest is more focused on nesting specifically for CNC applications, but bitmaps could be supported with some kind of grouping function.

@Jack000 Thanks for the quick response. We have looked into Packery but it has two points which make it not work. Firstly, it can slightly shrink a div to make it fit and it also doesnt support 90 degree rotations.

When cutting for a vinyl cutter / printer the process is almost exactly the same as what you are doing now, but the results are packed into squares. This is because the materials are less expensive, so most producers deliver their products in squares. For example if you had a round bowling ball, the sticker would still arrive on a square sheet. This makes production faster.

Right now the closest thing which exists is an adobe illustrator plugin called e-cut. http://illustrator.e-cut.ru/index.php?view=function&functionid=0

It supports nesting of art, with spacing between them. The art can be rotated 90 degress, and then the plugin makes the best use of a possible space.

@villanus have you found anything for nesting vinyl cutting? I am in search for one, hoping I can find something close enough and I can modify to use it for my purpose. Thanks
