Problem with arXiv Web Search at startup
JabRef version
5.6 (latest release)
Operating system
Windows
Details on version and operating system
Windows 11 Pro 21H2
Checked with the latest development build
- [X] I made a backup of my libraries before testing the latest development version.
- [X] I have tested the latest development version and the problem persists
Steps to reproduce the behaviour
Here is the issue:
- I open JabRef
- I input the arXiv ID of a paper in the "Web Search" bar on the left.
- JabRef stops responding and I have to close the program.
Here is a (puzzling) workaround:
- I open JabRef
- I input the arXiv ID of a paper using the Library->New Entry function in the tool bar.
- The paper is added successfully.
- From that point on, I can use the "Web Search" bar to add other papers for as long as JabRef is open, and JabRef doesn't crash.
When I close and re-open JabRef, the problem comes back and the "Web Search" bar is not able to connect. It seems that the "Web Search" bar cannot connect to the arXiv on its own? I don't understand it.

Could you please provide the ID of the paper so that we can test this more easily?

JabRef crashes with all the papers I try, as long as I have not yet imported the paper with the Library/New Entry tool. After that, it works for all papers.
For instance, it just happened with https://arxiv.org/abs/2205.15277. But it happens with all of them. I attach a screenshot of what happens. Maybe that helps.
I don't know if that can help in any way, but here is the exit code that I'm being given when I click "Close the Program".
"Child process exited with code 3489660927"
For ids you have to use the New Entry dialog. The Web Search interface is for searching articles based on keywords
