Can't play MPG video files after install SoftGPU in Win98 Guest

Host 1: VMware 17 Guest 1: Win98 SE, SoftGPU 0.4.2023.19, Patcher9x 0.8.50 Host 2: VirtualBox 7 Guest 2: Win98 FE, SoftGPU 0.4.2023.19, Patcher9x 0.8.50

Can't play MPG video files after install SoftGPU in Win98 Guest. Play AVI video files are OK. Use VMware Tools has no this problem. 1

I have the same problem as you :-/

Host 1: VMware 16.2.4 Guest 1: Win98 SE, SoftGPU 0.4.2023.19

Click View(V) on the WMP. Click Option. Set the Hardware Accelerator slider to the far left. (No hardware acceleration).

Even without hardware acceleration, there is enough CPU power to play the video at the time.
