summary.cmip5data depends on certain fields being defined in the cmip5 object but that will break if we revise the structure. A more general approach would be to look at the provenance of the file and generate the summary string based on this.

I'm nervous about depending too much on the (somewhat arbitrary) list structure underlying cmip5data, so absolutely agree. Will look at this on plane home from Alaska...

One nice feature of this is that the provenance records the order of steps, whereas our current approach doesn't. Putting this into the 1.2 milestone.
