Unable to reopen scanner

I am allowing the user to toggle the scanner in Meteor. When the user opens the scanner, I render the template and the scanner works. However, after closing the scanner and destroying the template and rendering the template again, I am unable to reopen it. The camera works, but the scanner is not returning any messages or scanning.
