System volume is ignored on Linux Mint

Describe the bug Notification sounds still play, even when the system volume is turned all the way down on Linux Mint.

Expected behavior When the system sound is muted, incoming message notifications should not play.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

• OS: Linux Mint 22.1
• Installation package: tried with Flatpack and apt/deb
• Version: latest
