It will be helpful to have a record of the decisions made in the modelling process. Consider the example here.

Makes sense. A more lightweight approach would be what the Gaia-X working groups do: that at least those decisions that have an impact on the implementation are consistently implemented as pull requests, such that their approval documents that a decision was made. Then, of course, these pull requests need to contain sufficient documentation, making explicit what the decision is.
