We have a mapping between XCCS and Unicode code points which need to be turned into glyph sequences. PDF (but I don't think Postscript) supports a way of giving a sequence of font glyphs and the corresponding 'to unicode' mapping.

We have some fonts wich only have screen-resolution rasters (dancer and sigma 20); there might be print-resolution fonts somewhere, but not for postscript.

We have some files in Japanese or mixed Japanese and english. It would be great if we could generate PDF's without the black boxes.

One of the primary goals of the project is preservation. To preserve documentation that requires an emulator of the print engine is to convert the documents to a more standard long-term format (PDF/A is such a format). @MattHeffron @ecraven ?
