Bibliography: Remove entries with no "useful" information?

Open MattHeffron opened this issue 2 months ago • 5 comments

There are some entries with no "useful" information content. They only note that something exists without any way to reference, or see the entry.

Should such entries be removed from the bibliography?

For example, there are 5 "Medley Advertisement: ..." entries, 4 of which have no abstract nor URL to the "document". Other than noting that the advertisement was in "AI Expert", Volume: 8 Issue: 9. Is there really any value in this bibliography entry?

If enough information to complete the entry can be found (e.g. URL, PDF) I'd keep it and proceed, otherwise delete the entry.

I would start with the idea that this is an error in metadata addition. So just deleting the entry from Zotero seems like the wrong direction.

How about moving the Zotero entry from "Exported to interlisp.org" to either "should be removed" or "in progress" (or make up another category). And annotate it with a note which explains what you did and other relevant entries.

It turns out that these Zotero entries have the document (actually image) as attached files in Zotero, which are not directly accessible. Entries with attached files should have the files moved to an accessible location with a direct url.

Currently there are ~221 Zotero "child" entries in/under the collection “exported to interlisp.org/bibliography” that have .itemType == "attachment" and a blank .url. Many/most of these should have the document moved as noted above.

I have moved the 4 entries I originally noted into the “access needed to attached document” collection, (which is NOT under the “exported to interlisp.org/bibliography” collection that is the source of the bibliography entries.) Until this is addressed, these will not be included in the online bibliography.

Edit: I changed my analysis of the Zotero data and found that there are only 18 top level entries that have a blank (or non-existent) url and have at least one child attchment with .linkMode == "imported_file"; so fixing these cases is more tractable. (That 18 includes the 4 entries mentioned that were moved.)

Other than the "original" 4 Zotero entries mentioned, I copied (not moved) the other 14 (of 18 noted in Edit above) into the same “access needed to attached document” collection.

This relates to Issue #2098
