Interlisp
Add Richard Burton's Interlisp papers to the bibliography
As agreed in the July 28, 2025 external meeting it would be useful to add to the bibliography the papers by Richard Burton related to Interlisp.
To give an update here (for record-keeping purposes mostly), the papers that I could find are now in the bibliography, and I'm working on populating their metadata.
Please add a comment listing the papers you could not locate, or a list of all the papers and their status, or whatever you've been using to keep track.
The papers I'm missing:
- SOPHIE: A Sophisticated Instructional Environment for Teaching Electronic Troubleshooting (An Example of AI in CAI)
- A Semantically Centered Parsing Strategy for Mixed-Initiative CAI Systems This one seems to be only available in microfiche; I found that there were plans to scan it back in 2002 but I haven’t been able to find any updates...
- A compiling system for augmented transition networks
- Reactive Learning Environments For Teaching Electronic Troubleshooting
- The environment module of intelligent tutoring systems I only found a link to this one on Taylor Francis and because U of A has a physical copy of the book, I've requested a digital copy of Richard's chapter.
All the others from his site are in Zotero under the "In progress" category.
Richard's gotten back to me; he says he only has the ones that are on his website, not any others. I'll see if I can dig around for them some more, and otherwise they might just be lost for now.
@rmkaplan may have a copy of this paper (on microfiche, I think):

A paper, I believe. Richard has listed it on his Publications page.
Not clear, it's described as a "paper presented", no citation of the proceedings or page numbers (although a lot of them don't have page numbers, but some do).
Here's a fiche with what seems to be the program of the 1974 meeting, includes the Sophie paper but not the semantically centered parsing paper. The https://aclanthology.org/ website has microfiches of the journal from 1974 (look at the CL link), but I don't see a Burton link. My bet is that the conference didn't have proceedings in those days, papers would have been published in the microfiche journal at that time.
