Why and how to create an InnerSource strategy?

Creating an InnerSource strategy helps to describe, why InnerSource is important for an organization, how it supports the goals of the organization, and which steps to do to establish InnerSource in an organization. It can also help to get management buy-in.

The pattern you are referring to is here: https://github.com/InnerSourceCommons/InnerSourcePatterns/blob/main/patterns/1-initial/creating_an_innersource_strategy.md

It is indeed still an Initial pattern, i.e. just available in our repo.

Missing steps to get it published to our book woudl be at least:

  • fill in the empty sections of the pattern
  • (optimally) find a 2nd org that confirms the applicability of the pattern

Here is a more detailed description of the Level 2 Structured requirements.

If you have never written a pattern before, some of these may seem unclear. Happy to chat about this more here, in Slack, or even in a call.

However I wanted to capture this feedback in writing as well, so that people can work on it async if they want to.
