Get all of the Patterns in the online Patterns book (not just level 2+ patterns)
Could this be the Tech Radar format (inner rings are more mature patterns)?
Will reach out to @spier to discuss further.
@yenk @rrrutledge I started to describe here how the current approach works: https://github.com/InnerSourceCommons/InnerSourcePatterns/discussions/762
I did not have time yet to explore the pros/cons of the current approach yet.
Full disclosure: Will try my best not to get defensive about the current approach :) I have been using it for some time now, so for my purposes it has worked so far. That probably also means that I am somewhat blind to the issues that you are looking to solve with the approach that you are suggesting.
It would help me if you could describe the specific advantages of the approach that you have in mind, so that we can put things side by side and make an educated decision.
Thanks for working on this with us, @spier. We’re looking for a way to make the Initial patterns more discoverable so that people can find them, learn about them, and add to them.
I think we just had an example in the last day or two where we were looking for a pattern and couldn’t find it. We can only imagine the difficulty for someone that is unfamiliar or uninvolved with the community.
Trying to qualify the use case better. Therefore I only have questions, no answers :)
- Who is the user that is (potentially) interested in the Initial patterns? Just to name some vastly different groups: (a) anybody on the internet, (b) users of our ISC Slack, or (c) ISPO WG participants?
- Our repo contains a list of all initial patterns. As this issue here is describing a specific solution in the title, I am assuming that this list does not solve that problem. Why not? How does the user want to be able to discover these Initial patterns?
- You mentioned an example where you could not find a specific pattern. Would love to hear more about which pattern that was and how you searched for it.
- Someone that wants to find a pattern to help them in their current situation.
- The entry point to browse patterns is the online book. The list of patterns in the repo is not visible in the online book. The person wants to be able to browse online patterns all in one place.
@yenk will see if this is done.
Depends on the "definition of done" ;)
We collected the list of Initial patterns here, including our assessment of whether they can be leveled up (and published in the book) or not: https://github.com/InnerSourceCommons/InnerSourcePatterns/issues/772
However doing the work to level up those patterns will take some time.
