Addition of scenes

Summary

Add the ability to place notes around the world. Similar to how dpScenes does it. image

Reason

As it stands, in order to create a menu, stage a crime scene or create any type of readable material in OP-FW you are required to use /notepad and drop it. The addition of this feature would allow people swift and easy access to creating these and be able to place them in the world. This would make a lot of peoples lives easier and would allow for much more immersion in certain situations.

Some examples of how this could be used: Workers at Burger Shot type out their menu and their pricing and have is displayed inside of their store so that people can pcik and choose what they would like to order before getting to the counter. When FIB is raiding someone, they could place text at the door of the house and throughout the house to provide immersion and context to the raid for someone who was not there to know they were raided. When a killer has killed someone but wants to leave evidence behind for police to collect, they could leave text around their scene with important information such as 'a boot print is in the dirt walking away from the scene'. I have also seen people using these scenes in order to place a 'poster' which provides event information in the city.

The possibilities could be endless.

As much as I like this my only concern is people abusing it (Especially Trolls)

Personally I feel like this isn’t an excuse not to add it. Notepads can be abused and staff have logs and can punish accordingly. Additionally, just like notepads, anyone has the ability to remove a scene if they so wish. I have seen this script implemented in many different instances and it only serves to enhance RP and very rarely we abused.

Daxter you know how much we hate external scripts. We are not going to add another one. HOWEVER i will edit your suggestion

This is a pog idea and would improve events within the server.

I suggest that this feature could also be protected from intentional or unintentional deletion or editing by third parties, in instances like competitions etc. where information going missing would lead to unfair differences between participants for example.

Also, some way to differentiate between scene creators, to prevent people from adding false information or false clues.

Ideally people should be mature enough for this to not be an issue, but some people are unfortunately not mature enough, and people do mess with things by accident a lot. So having some kind of locking mechanism / auth mechanism for this I think would be very helpful or even crucial.

Honestly, most opfw servers are public, i feel like this would have immense potential to be abused in bad ways

Perhaps limited to trusted/streamer roles?

I don’t see how it’s any more abusable than people being able to print photos, being able to write anything they want on a note, play any video they want on the TV, write almost any description.. all of these have logs and can be handled from a staff dm side if abused. We could make it that people can turn off wether or not they can see them like we do with music? It’s legit just a longer version of /me that can be placed in the world to do advertisements or set up scenes to be more immersive.

well scenes are instantly visible from a distance away, while those have to be intentionally looked at

coalaura avatar Jan 04 '24 19:01 coalaura

On the script side, I believe you would be able to change what distance they are seen at. I'm sure it could be the exact same as /me's and people wouldn't care, especially if they were given the ability to turn them off if they wanted to. But no worries, I don't mind either way.
