Show THUMBNAIL or single frame VOLUME image in slide tray when there is no OVERVIEW
If there is not OVERVIEW (SVS macro) image to display in the left hand slide tray, the THUMBNAIL would be better than nothing, since it conveys the impression of what is on the slide and how it is stained.
I have so far refrained form doing that because it can get quite complex. Note that there may neither be a THUMBNAIL image nor a single-frame VOLUME image. Also, what would one show in case of a multi-channel immunofluorescence image?
For the IDC, if we want to show an "overview" image, I would suggest we create an OVERVIEW image rather than adding potentially very complex logic to the viewer.
Alternatively, we could display additional image or equipment metadata for each digital slide that are shared across contained image instances or aggregates (e.g., total number of optical paths).
