ZimaOS installer not booting on Minisforum MS-01
Flashed zimaos_zimacube-1.3.1-1_installer.img to a usb stick and tried to boot it, but even after 1h wait this is all i get on screen:
Tried a different usb stick, different flasher (Balena and Rufus), usb2 and usb3 ports, no change.
I can successfully boot zimaos_zimacube-1.3.1-1.img.xz from usb, but would rather install the OS on internal storage.
After waiting around 1h and 15 minutes the installer booted and i was able to start the install. It is proceeding very slowly for the past 50 minutes:
Still proceeding, 30% progress in 5h, curious to see where this goes now.
Tenacity rewards, 10 hours later...
For people encountering this issue and wanting to install ZimaOS on internal storage, here is my workaround:
- flash a ubuntu desktop distro on a usb drive
- copy the current version of ZimaOS on the root of the usb drive, in my case it was https://github.com/IceWhaleTech/ZimaOS/releases/download/1.3.2-beta1/zimaos_zimacube-1.3.2-beta1.img.xz
- boot ubuntu and choose to try it
- from the desktop navigate to the ZimaOS img file on the usb drive, double click on it
- ubuntu will offer to restore the image, choose the internal storage you want to install ZimaOS on
- when done reboot the machine, make sure to remove the ubuntu usb stick
- Zima will resize the partitions to the full size of the disk at boot, if you see issue at first boot just reboot another time, that fixed it for me
Bro.... you saved me. I have been trying to install Zima on my NUC for the last 3 days and it never got past the initial boot part. This install from Ubuntu live did the trick. Thanks a ton.
@emaspa This didn't work for me. It just copied the installer to the HD and it didn't boot either as its boot segment was legacy.
