dataversecommunity.slack.com has only 90 days of history
https://dataversecommunity.slack.com just reached its 10,000 message limit.
The "learn more" button goes to https://app.slack.com/plans/T5V7KNU05?feature=unlimited_messages
What are our options?
- Switch to https://chat.dataverse.org
- Switch to some other chat solution
- Pay for Slack
- Other ideas?
Discussion is welcome!
Personally, since we're talking about an open source project, I'm in favor of a chat solution that is SLOPI (Searchable Linkable Open Public Indexed): http://blog.greptilian.com/2020/01/25/slopi-communication/ . chat.dataverse.org is already SLOPI.
This just in from https://slack.com/intl/en-gb/blog/news/pricing-and-plan-updates
"We’re also simplifying subscription limits. Instead of a 10,000-message limit and 5 GB of storage, we are giving full access to the past 90 days of message history and file storage, so you’ll never have to guess when your team will hit your limit."
Our Slack history is locked up and inaccessible. For example, I know there was content in the geospatial channel:

Personally, I favor switching to Matrix at https://chat.dataverse.org
I'm starting to wonder if we should play with Zulip. They have a new "public access option" that allows for the kind of transparency that I think is healthy for open source projects: https://blog.zulip.com/2022/05/05/public-access-option/
I put some additional thoughts and details here:

Hello, Zulip is used (increasingly) for a while now and the diversity of communication canals has already been criticized ans misleading and. Should there be a formal vote to close for every other canal ?
