Misleading message "password wrong" when having network/connection issues

Describe the bug

When the running browser webapp looses it's connection a login attempt is answered with a misleading "password wrong"/"Überprüfe Userdaten" instead of "connection lost" message.

In German from User: "Ich hatte Probleme, mich anzumelden. Ich wollte schon ein neues PW anfordern, da dachte ich, warte mal ein bisschen, vielleicht hat ja der Server Probleme. Da habe ich eben einen anderen Tab im Browser angeklickt - da kam prompt die Meldung: sie sind offline. Offenbar wartet der Anmeldeprozess auf eine Bestätigung vom Server und wenn die nicht kommt, geht er davon aus, dass das Passwort nicht stimmt. Es wäre evtl. angebracht, hier vorher zu prüfen, ob eine Internet-Verbindung besteht und eine entsprechende Warnung auszugeben, wenn das nicht der Fall ist."

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open the login dialog
2. Enter Username and password
3. Switch off your network connection
4. Try to login in

Expected behavior A message "network connection lost"
