Multiple-monitor support

Open jasonhansel opened this issue 8 years ago • 9 comments

I would like to display DockbarX on three different XFCE panels simultaneously (since I would like to have the same panel on each of my three monitors). Currently, DockbarX can only be added to one XFCE panel at a time (since it has the X-XFCE-Unique=true attribute).

Would it be possible to remove this limitation?

Hmm. I don't have a multi-monitor setup. Why don't you try changing that to false in the .desktop file yourself, then let us know what happens? :) I set that at the start of the plugin's life when it was more hacky, but I get the sense it'd be okay now.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work: when you add DockbarX to a panel on the second monitor, neither the icons nor the plugin's background color show up. No relevant error messages appear in the output of PANEL_DEBUG=1 xfce4-panel or journalctl -xe. As a side note, you can reproduce this bug on a single-monitor setup by creating two panels and adding DockbarX to both of them.

I'd be glad to provide further information/help, but I'm not sure how to go about debugging this.

Thanks for the information. I'll look into this when I can find some time to do so. Sorry about this.

Thank you so much for looking into this! I'd be glad to help, but I don't know much about XFCE/DockbarX internals.

Any news? aur/xfce4-dockbarx-plugin 0.5-1 still same issue.

EDIT: Search around i found that panel loads from /usr/share/xfce4/panel/plugins/ folder Edited dockbarx.desktop and set line "X-XFCE-Unique=true" to false

Reloaded xfce panel (xfce4-panel -r) , added it and then i reloaded again to show it.

Works like charm. Appreciate it ^_^

changing unique to false doesn't seem to help, still shows up only on one panel

I still seem to face the same problem even after this fix, is there another workaround maybe? (On Manjaro 21.2.5 Quonos, xfce version 4.16, xfce-panel version 4.16.4)

I'm not maintaining this anymore, and further still: I've been on Plasma since January of this year.

According to this site, the most active forks are Mathias's fork and Flat's fork, but even those do not seem to have been touched in a very, very long time.

The docklike plugin will serve your needs much better than dockbarx plugin if you want a dock-style tasklist on XFCE. But honestly, other DEs integrate this kind of workflow much better than XFCE does.

It's probably high time I simply archive this repository, and I will go ahead and do that in a few days. My apologies and also thanks to those who have enjoyed this software.
