`npm run build` crashes

ERROR: "buildManifest" exited with 126.

I can fix that via chmod +x bin/generateManifest.bash. File modes can be added to git, so I suggest you doing so.

Hmm, I don't have this problem with WSL.

However, you don't need to build it, unless you did modification, you can simply wget from github
