Can't connect to WiFi after update from esp32 v1.04

I have the Helec WiFi Kit 32 which has worked fine. However, since the Arduino board support changed from esp32 v1.04, the board with not connect to my wifi. Neither the v1.05 or the just released v1.06 will work. The ONLY difference is the version of the board manager version. Simply changing back to version 1.04 will make it work again. I am using a very simple program that just should connect to a router. In verbose debug, I see the error "4way_handshake_timeout". I have two of the Heltec boards and they do the same thing.
