can we substitute django.contrib.postgres.fields.JSONField fro django.db.models.JSONField without breaking backwards compatability?

That would bump the Django dependency up to 3.1 immediately, which is LTS until early 2022 (and I'm still using in production). Maybe a conditional import for now?
