slits and gratings

Open divarano opened this issue 7 months ago • 1 comments

I've looked through the documentation and examples - great job! I couldn't find any spectrograph example, maybe just missed it. Is there anyway the idea of modeling the concept of a slit and grating?

Hi @divarano,

Thanks for the question.

Modeling slits and gratings isn’t currently supported, but we do have diffractive and phase surfaces on our roadmap. It’s not a top priority at the moment, but if there’s growing interest from the community, we’re definitely open to bumping it up.

I’d also be happy to collaborate with anyone interested in helping develop this feature.

Regards, Kramer

Hi @HarrisonKramer,

I have written a few Kino form diffractive surfaces. I'm interested in helping out. I'll try to make a branch and push something shortly. I assume you would want diffractives as a new surface type?

Hi @Hhsoj,

That's great to hear - we'd definitely like to have that functionality.

Yes, creating a new surface type is the right approach here. You can start with something simple, or what you already have, and we can later build on it to implement other diffractive/phase surfaces.

I just created an issue (#225), which we can use to monitor this. This also makes it visible so we can avoid possible duplicate work from other contributors.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Best, Kramer

Closing this issue, as we will track the grating & diffractive surface development in #225 and #226.
