Encode crash

Problem Description

For some files, handbrake is unable to finish the encoding process and report a crash in windows 11. It happens relatively often at random times. I run an encode with the following settings: H.265 10bit (NVENC), 60ffs, CQ-20, 4K resolution, I have a RTX4060Ti and the latest nvidia drivers installed.

One more data, same encode with the mac works like a charm, no issue there, this must be a bug only in the windows version somehow....

Now if I use handbrake macOS or Shutterencoder in win11 to do the same task with same parameters, no issue at all.....

There are BIOS updates for many boards now and running the baseline profile may help. We've had a few reports now of the 14900K being unstable specifically with HandBrake until run at a more sensible power profile. (Although for one person, the CPU had to be replaced as the board had damaged it)

As for mac, there is no NVEnc support on mac so it's invalided that as useful information. Shutter works quite differently to HandBrake so it's difficult to draw anything useful from that also.

ok I will have a look at what my settings are, however, if it was the issue, the same encoding with Shuuter encofer will also crash, which is not the case, so this seems to be very specific to handbrake with windows. Alexis

Shutter is not working in the same way as HandBrake. Not all apps (even high load ones are unstable) when folks are affected by this.

I was able to tune most of them in BIOS, things seem to be working much better now indeed. I will run a batch of 25 video over night to make sure the issue is fixed. However, another question or request depending of the answer, when adding a sub track in windows, it is impossible to see the file name that you just added as seen in the pic attached while in macos you can resize that field so that you can see the full name, is there a way today to do this in windows or is it a feature request here? Here is the update, I think we can say that it has fixed the issue here, it might be good if you could include disclaimer somewhere on your site on this issue. Now what about this UI limitation?

UI Limitation

There is a tooltip with the full name. The reason the pane isn't resizable is it's not a grid. It's unfortunately dynamic in design which doesn't play nice with datagrid controls without having other problems.

The Behaviours panel is getting re-designed at the moment under (https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/pull/5736) so I'll see if I can't do something "better" here.

Also, keep an eye out for BIOS updates. Board manufacturers seem to be having a go at fixing this. (To varying degrees of success it would appear)

If your CPU can't atleast hold the performance level but is stable at a baseline level, I'd warranty it.

If it's fine at the baseline level, if you've not already try performance. If it's not stable then, I'd recommend getting it replaced under warranty.

Indeed, Asus released one update for my board with Intel baseline profiles which I used. Will see if I can tweak it to performance now…

FYI Asus just release a new BIOS with the three new Intel recommended power profiles and then their own profile to use at your own risks. I now run the Extreme profile, no more issues....
