Chat Input Awkward Focus

Bug Description When typing a spectator note, the game chat text box appeared and the site switched my text input field from the card note to the game chat, and I sent an accidental message. Something similar can happen when pressing the space bar to toggle empathy: the chat window can open due to other messages and I end up typing a bunch of spaces.

To Reproduce I don't know how to make it consistent; sometimes the text input field seems to open without focusing the input field. My best guess is that it happens when the text box was prior closed with the text input field focused.

Expected behavior The text input field should not be focused when other people's messages cause chat to appear. I'd prefer if it never focused the input box when other people's messages caused it to open and always focused the text field when I press the button to open it. But I would be happy if it just didn't focus when I was writing a note on a card.
