[Variants] that affect clues and how they are given (compatible with suits)
THIS IS A SUGGESTION OF NEW VARIANTS.
The following rules are intended to affect how clues are given, To the best of my knowledge, they are not already present on hanab.live. They were played within a group of friends and found interesting and quite rich. They also required new conventions. Most of the suggested rules can also be combined together, as well as with special suits.
1- Delocalized clues.
The players can still give color or number clues on other players’ hands. However, instead of marking the target player’s cards, the clue giver only tells them the type of the clue ("yellow") and the number of cards that match ("You have two yellow cards in your hand").
Let us point out the combination with (the already included) "duck" rules, where cards are pointed out according to a valid clue, but the type of the clue is not given to the target player.
- Soft delocalized+duck means that the target player only knows that a certain number of cards (which is given to them) were affected by the clue.
- Hard delocalized+duck means that the target player only knows that they were given a clue - period.
2- Double clues.
The clues are now given in the following way: the clue giver chooses a card in a target player’s hand. They must point out every card that share a suit or a number with the target card. They also give both number and color.
3- Logician roundabout
Best described by an example. It is Alice’s turn to clue, and she plays with Bob, Cathy, and Donald. In this variant, she does not decide which player she gives a clue to. Instead, the other players (starting from Donald, then Cathy, then Bob - in other word, in the reverse of the usual turn order) will either ask for a clue or pass. Alice must give a clue to the first player to ask for one. Alice must either play or discard if no one asks for a clue, and only in this case. (If no clue remains, all the other player must pass. If 8 clues are available and no one asks for a clue, Alice must play.)
Easy variant: everyone makes public simultaneously whether they want a clue or not, but only one gets the clue (either the last one or the first - but Alice should not have a choice.)
3b- Hard delocalized logician duck roundabout
We found that this variant works quite well with hard delocalized duck: when a player asks for a clue, Alice’s turn is over, and no information is transmitted besides that the person asked for a clue.
3c- Secret hard delocalized logician duck roundabout
An extremely hard variant to the hard delocalized+duck+logicial roundabout is to only make public whether someone asked for a clue, but to not reveal their identity.
I would love to play the first of these variants!
