Inconsistent terminology is confusing

The term “CheckIn” is confusing. It seems like a “CheckIn” is something that should be done when I arrive at the location where my volunteer work is going to be done. It would seem to me that a volunteer would first register (make a commitment). “Please enter the information below to make a commitment to checkin to a disaster.” But after volunteer makes a “commitment” to check in, their commitment then shows on the “View CheckIns” page. That’s confusing.
