The eye scans down the page looking for the first action to take, the first button to click, as the user tries to figure out how to use the page. And the very first action is "check out". With compassion fatigue and complexity in people's lives, you want to make it very easy for people to take the path of acting to help, rather than taking the action of saying "this is too complex or confusing, my son is sick anyway, I can't help."
