mouse not detected in version 1.0.96 and newer (linux, wine, proton)

Hi.

When I run Temple+ on linux using proton (steam + proton experimental), mouse clicks are not detected in version 1.0.96 and 1.097 of Temple+. I can run the game, but there are no mouseover effects in the main game window (changing blue font to white). When I click on 'new game' nothing happens.

I can run original toee game just fine, but the fonts are blurry :)

Mouse click are detected in version 1.0.95, and earlier

Tried without Circle8 patch.

Nvidia gt750, void linux.

This is not of high priority, just maybe add to FAQ, so people can know to use the older version, if they experience such problem, and to disable update in TemplePlusConfig, or rename update.exe to something else.

Tried in newer versions, without success: -lock cursor -run in windowed mode

I believe I also tried different versions of wine, without success.

Thanks.

Can you describe a little more how you set things up? Did you set up the game to be launched by Steam or something?

I use wine to run T+ and haven't experienced these problems. I use another program (bottles) to manage the wine stuff for me, though. I haven't tried setting it up using Steam+proton, nor a system wine.

-I added shortcut to gog setup_toee.exe, in steam, set compatibility to 'proton experimental' -started setup from inside steam by clicking on shortcut, completed setup -moved toee folder from steam/compatdata folder to /home/toee -using protontricks, started explorer, -(run circle of eight setup, unzipped tfa folder, renamed original temple.exe, temple.dll to *.old, moved co8 files to /home/toee folder) -run templeplussetup.exe, moved templeplus95 folder to /home/toee/templeplus95 -then I changed shortcut in steam to run /home/toee/templeplus95/templeplus.exe -I start the templeplus.exe from steam, using shortcut, setup options. -start templeplus.exe the same way again, to start the game.

I think I also tried with wine, without success.

So, I finally got around to trying this out. Sorry about the delay. I changed a step or two to basically this:

  • Ran the GOG install from steam
  • Moved the ToEE directory out of compatdata to ~/Games/steam-toee
  • Unzipped the last release into ~/Games/steam-toee/Temple+
  • Switched the steam game to point to TemplePlusConfig.exe, ran it, pointed it to the ToEE directory (and changed resolution)
  • Switched the steam game to point to TemplePlus.exe

After that, the game launched, and my mouse works.

So, I guess you could try just using the zip release, but I'm skeptical that will make any difference.

I guess more likely is that there's some quirk related to our system differences. I'm just running Ubuntu, and I have an AMD graphics card. But I don't know why those would make any difference, or how to diagnose more of what's wrong.

Which compatibility settings did you use in Steam? Proton experimental, or something else?

I was using proton experimental, but using other versions doesn't seem to make a difference, at least for whether or not the mouse works.

Oh, maybe I should mention also: I usually have the steam overlay off, and game recording off. They also don't seem to make a difference here when I turn them on, but I guess in principle it could make a difference for you.

Also, I'm using Gnome and Wayland. I don't really know much about Void, but if you're using X or some other compositor, that could be a significant difference between our systems.
