No prompt to enable file transfer on P10PF when USB-C data connected

Currently running the experimental P10 build on a Pixel 10 Pro Fold. When connecting to my Windows PC (Win 11 Pro build 26100.7171) via a USB-C data cable, no notification is triggered, and the device appears to be in charging-only mode. All of the options in USB-C settings (e.g. File Transfer, Tether, etc.) are greyed out except for the top two, and those are correctly set to "this device."

Changing the default USB mode to "file transfer" in dev options fixes the issue. After turning dev options back off and restarting, it continues to work: as long as the phone is unlocked, the storage appears. If I go back into dev options and set the default to "no data transfer", the problem reappears, and all of the USB transfer options remain greyed out.

I have the option for the GOS additional USB-C hardening set to "charging only except when unlocked."

I am experiencing the same on Pixel 10 Experimental Build 2025112501.

The USB Preferences "Use USB for File Transfer" was working great and has since stopped. Charging works fine. Not sure what App install or settings could have halted that File Transfer. Yes I am using a valid cable. I haven't checked the Developer settings as mentioned above - as it was working fine across Owner and Secondary profiles yesterday.

Confirming with my Pixel 10 Pro, including the workaround - changing default USB mode works. Without that, (at least) USB-C to USB-C cable connections don't work.

Both 20251125?? and 2025113001 (updated today) have the issue for me. On the previous, I could manage to connect the device to the USB-A port, and the USB picker would appear. This has apparently also ceased to work, for some reason.

Same for me pixel 10 pro xl on alpha release and my phone updated today. I've got zero Android auto connectivity as a result. Cheers guys, look forward to a workaround 😁

Pixel 10 is known to have major issues with USB right now. It's not due to a recent update but rather was this way from the beginning but doesn't always happen.

Okay, thank you. That's good to know. Perhaps I will go back to stock OS for a a little while. Graphene lads I've done a fantastic job getting it out as quick as they did and for the most part it's fairly solid. I've had some horrid issues with a couple of Google related things like tap and pay and the most curious one is using chat *GPT. The app is being a real dingleberry all of a sudden, it never was when I first installed graphene, so I'm not really sure perhaps I need to just learn to live without Google services more LMAO. It's bloody tough even though I don't like them again, thank you for the info

I hit this as well on a regular Pixel 10. Everything was working perfectly until after I tested the desktop experience mode. I'm not sure if that's what triggered it, but it's been charge only since then (even after disabling the feature).

Just reporting in to say that I'm seeing the same behaviour after updating to 20251217.

Some of this is repeating what's above, but just to clarify everything:

  • Charging works
  • There's no notification with the current connected state
  • In USB Preferences the "USB controlled by" options light up but changing it to "Connected device" fails
  • None of the options under "Use USB for" are available
  • Running adb on the connected computer results in "no devices/emulators found"
  • The phone doesn't show up when running lsusb on the connected computer
  • Nothing shows up in dmesg when connecting the phone

I'm not 100% sure what I should be looking for, but I grepped the logs for "usb" after plugging it in:

Interesting development that might help others assuming it wasn't just a coincidence. I wasn't thinking about the disabled USB data transfer functionality and wanted to back up my phone before the holidays started, so I plugged in a usb stick and it popped up and I created a new backup. I realized this shouldn't have been possible part way through, so I decided to try connecting it to my computer found it was working there again too.
