AOSP keyboard unavailable for unlocking when in Safe Mode.
Issue: The AOSP keyboard is, under certain specific but common circumstances, unavailable for unlocking a device booted into safe mode. Tested with the latest version of GrapheneOS, 2025010700. This bug is not the result of disabling the AOSP keyboard.
Prerequisites
- Must use an alphanumeric password on the owner profile (PINs do not depend on the keyboard; I am unable to test whether the keyboard remains unavailable in AFU if the owner profile is locked with a PIN where logging in is presumably possible).
- Must have two keyboards enabled in the owner profile, including the native AOSP keyboard (i.e. the issue does not occur if the AOSP keyboard is the only enabled keyboard in the owner profile).
- AOSP keyboard must not be the active / primary keyboard when rebooting into safe mode.
Steps to reproduce:
- Ensure the above prerequisites are met.
- Reboot the device into Safe Mode.
- Observe that the AOSP keyboard fails to appear and that all attempts to ‘summon’ the AOSP keyboard are unsuccessful (including the switch keyboard button on the right of the password entry field).
I am able to reproduce this issue.
is there any solution?
the third prerequisite was not necessary. AOSP keyboard wasnt disabled, but the keyboard does not appear in safe mode as in normal mode after reboot :-(
I also have this issue and am locked out of my phone currently due to it
I can confirm keyboard button also doesn't work for me BFU in safe mode. Also not available when not in safe mode. Also locked out of my phone.
