Add a timer to USB-C port Control when the port is set to ON
The idea steamed when I was gaming with my backbone controller, I need to turn USB C port to on to play and then remember to turn it off again. Sometimes I forget and realize the next day. It would be beneficial to add a timer to USB-C port setting when it is turned on. Similar to how the auto-reboot timer is on.
Probably not high priority but would be a cool addition.
You could set it to another settings to allow it to be a little more flexible but having it set to charging only I feel is the best for usability and security.
Are you referring to using the default Charging-only while locked setting and wanting it to switch to Off automatically?
If you unplug the USB-C device, USB-C data will be fully disabled when the device locks by default. If you don't unplug it, new USB-C connections will still be fully disabled when locked and USB-C data will get fully disabled as soon as it's unplugged.
Auto-reboot does essentially provide automatic data disabling even with a device that's left plugged in since an idle device with lock and then reboot where USB-C data will be disabled with the default setting. Only disabling charging including USB-PD won't happen automatically through that. Can understand if you want a way to automatically do it faster than auto-reboot and to move it to Off.
So currently when not gaming I have it set to charging only, when I game I turn it to on. The purpose of me wanting to set it off quicker is human error people usually forget to switch it back to charging only. Unless i can choose are more optimal setting maybe charging only when unlocked. What do you think? This could be applicable to people who will use desktop mode too, say you plan on working or gaming for 2 hours and then when 2 hours is up the USB-C port is automatically switched off.
Another one I can think off is an adversary knows you game from 6-7pm and knows your port is on, they could choose to steal the device then. Clearly hypothetical but I think you get what I am trying to say. A timer would set it to off even if you lost contact with your phone therefore they cant do extraction.
By turning it on, you mean the default Charging-only while locked mode, right?
Yes, that's what I mean apologies for not being clear.
