Secondary profile enhanements

  • Allow for toggling mobile data on/off in secondary profiles.

  • Allow for toggling Private DNS on/off in secondary profiles.

Would make secondary profiles much more flexible as you do not have to return to the owner profile every time you want to turn on/off one of these options.

Allow for toggling Private DNS on/off in secondary profiles.

They can already do this. Private DNS is global but there's a setting determining whether they can change it that's enabled by default.

Allow for toggling mobile data on/off in secondary profiles.

I think this exists but is disabled by default. We'd need to add a toggle.

Are you sure the setting is enabled? I just tried accessing Private DNS from a secondary profile and there is no option for it.

Edit: Would having a per-profile Private DNS instead of global be something GrapheneOS can accomplish or would this be better suited for upstream?

We may have disabled it by default, don't feel like checking right now. It was strange for it to be allowed by default.

strange why?

@duck09 Secondary users being able to globally configure Private DNS for all users was strange.

I 100% agree with the mobile data toggle, but private DNS is good as it is.

Also hotspot on secondary profiles would be very helpful. I sometimes use airplane mode to disable and re-enable mobile data, but I have to return to owner to re-enable the hotspot. Also, some sharing apps needs it to share the data over wifi. They fail because they cannot enable the hotspot.

This doesn't need a separate issue, since it's too similar to what was already posted here, but: If Airplane Mode is disabled and re-enabled on another profile (I tested this only using a Guest profile) then Wi-Fi is disabled and cannot be re-enabled unless Airplane Mode is disabled or the Owner profile enables it again.
