[Feature Request] Add Pixel Sounds App to GrapheneOS App Repo

Open heuwerk opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Hello dear GrapheneOS team,
I really miss the pixel tones from the stock ROM. However, I have not yet found a way to install the Pixel Sounds app from the Play Store. Would it be possible to include the Pixel Sounds app in your app repository?

Kind regards heuwerk

GrapheneOS users can download and install the official Sounds app by using the Sandboxed Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.soundpicker

Note that Google deliberately hides this app from the Play Store. For the Sounds app to be visible on Play Store you need a Google Account that had this app previously.

For example, one can login to their Google Account on a Pixel, running Stock Android, and that would add the Sounds app to their Google Account. Later on this Google Account can be used on any GrapheneOS device to install the Sounds app.

@khalykbek thank you very much!

I scrolled through the Apps in my Google Account and installed the Pixel Sounds App from there. Exactly the result I had hoped for. My problem is solved, as I didn't know that the app could be installed from the Play Store.

Should the Pixel Sounds app still be included in the GrapheneOS repo to simplify this process?

Otherwise, the ticket can be closed from my point of view.

For the Sounds app to be visible on Play Store you need a Google Account that had this app previously.

As this does add a requirement that not everyone can meet, we can investigate adding it to the "Apps" app in the future, though this is likely a low priority.

why not js add those sounds to GrapheneOS directly? the default sounds are straight caca tbh 💀 unless something something copyright idk

I could put all those sounds in a big zip file but idk if some of those are device specific, maybe only a subset of those should be added
