Date not displayed on lift to check screen
Summary: On the lift to check phone screen, the date is not displayed, if and only if the lock screen wallpaper is white. If lock screen wallpaper is black, the date is displayed.
This seems to be a cosmetic issue. It was reported on Matrix originally in the GrapheneOS Testing room. Copying here for posterity.
Device: Pixel 7, build number: TQ1A.230105.001.A2.2023020200
Here are the steps I used to reproduce.
Expected behaviour (date is displayed)
- Set lock screen wallpaper to black background
- Set screen time out to 15 seconds
- Turn on Lift to check phone
- Wait 15 seconds for screen to turn off
- Lift phone
- Screen displays time, date and icons of any unread notifications
Observed behaviour (date is not displayed)
- Set lock screen wallpaper this time to a white background
- Repeat steps 2-5 from above
- Screen displays time and notification icons, but not the date
Other notes:
- The screensaver (e.g. during charging) with AOSP Clock app still displays the date even with a white background.
- Originally reported on matrix by another user on Pixel 7 Pro. I was able to reproduce on Pixel 7.

On the lift to check phone screen
In my case, it is an issue regarding the always-on-lockscreen.
Expected result. The date is shown. Occurs when lock screen background is set to black block color.
Observed result. The date is hidden. Occurs when lock screen background is set to white block color.

Is it still an issue now?
I just checked with an (almost completely) white background and yes, it is.
