Add an option to move the toolbar to the bottom

Open Dyras opened this issue 3 years ago • 16 comments

Hello! One of my favorite things with Brave is that you can move the toolbar to the bottom. https://brave.com/brave-rewards-on-android/

This is something I really miss in Vanadium. Any chance a toggle could be added for this?

Pretty please?

Edit: Please star this issue! You can star it in the top left corner: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1284380

Putting the bar on the bottom is the default for Firefox and for FOSS Browser, and Chrome has a (hidden) option for it.

EDIT: Also, I would request this feature in Bromite too, but, "Features that are not related to privacy are not considered." So I guess that's never happening in Bromite unless it gets added to Chromium.

Personally, I'm really hoping there will be an exception for this in Bromite. It seems like an easy enough feature to add seeing as it's just about enabling a flag, or so it seems.

Yes this will make my thumbs happier.

EDIT: Oops, I thought i was in the bromite repo and wasn't paying attention. The below would apply to any mobile browser so I'm leaving it in, but it was about bromite when I wrote it...

Really want to switch to ~~bromite~~ vanadium. Downloaded it, set it as my default and replaced firefox with it on my homescreen. Opened it, immediately tried to adjust this setting, then ended up here. Reaching to the top of the screen every time you want to do anything really sucks for UX... feels very 2013...

So until this hits, it's back to Firefox Nightly for me :(

Thank you to the ~~Bromite~~ Vanadium devs for your hard work on this project. I really hope this issue will be considered as it will make the app a lot more appealing to people wanting to move to it. For now, I just can't make the switch without this feature in place.

I just switched to grapheneOS and this is on top of my wishlist! Don't want to use Firefox anymore because of security but really miss the url bar at the bottom.

Reposting from #grapheneos:grapheneos.org:

For those of you that want a bottom URL/toolbar again in Vanadium/Bromite a la Chrome Duet/Home, I think the best course of action is to have the code added upstream. With that in mind, I'd recommend staring this issue (https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1284380) on the Chromium issue tracker so the devs know this is a feature that a lot of people would like to have again. Star is in the upper-lefthand corner

Due to licensing, we can't use Bromite's code and it can't be directly submitted upstream. It just has to be implemented upstream.
