Gracefully handle full storage during video recording

Some time ago I recorded some videos and without me noticing the storage space on my phone ran full during recording. The result was a broken mp4 file, unable to watch/recover any of it.

I propose: Video recording should be automatically stopped when storage space runs out (e.g. less than 1 MB). This way at least part of the video is preserved. The user could be informed about it in some sort of notification pill.

I just thought about starting a recording with insufficient space (low number of Megabytes left). Does the app prevent recording in the first place?

And what about images? Prevent taking them in the first place or try to save them and fail & inform the user about it afterwards?
