[Spike] Investigate and Improve Font Legibility on Low PPI Screens
Acceptance Criteria:
- Research Existing Solutions: Gather information on existing text rendering techniques used to enhance font clarity on low-resolution screens.
- Implement the most promising techniques with our typeface (Acumin Pro Semi Condensed) to test the technique's effectiveness.
- Testing Across Devices: Test the readability of these solutions on devices with different PPI screens (72ppi through to 200-300ppi).
- In testing pay particularly close attention to the "e" and "a" with the "bold" treatment
- Do not investigate "font-smooth" CSS property
- Investigate font CSS properties to see if there is any viable options
- Discuss the option of moving from 700 weight to 600 weight headings with @twjeffery
- Stakeholder Review: Present findings and prototypes to PO for feedback.
- Documentation: Document the research findings, including any proposed changes that are being recommended for implementation.
Notes:
- Changing our typeface is likely not on the table
- This spike does not need to follow the Spike process
- Focus on solutions that can be integrated with minimal disruption to the current design system.
