How to prevent group manager from deleting own group
This is a follow up issue.
I am confused regarding amitaibu's comment here. Why do we need auto assign role in this case, are you telling about this module autoassignrole, sorry if I am not understanding something straightforward.
Apart from the confusion, my suggestion is we use the patch here.

The patch works for administrators who are not author of the group. We can do this for the authors too, right? Or is it how the module works, and any such changes cannot be part of the module and should be made in a custom module.
