Page randomly jumps back to top when scrolling
Bug description
After scrolling down, pages will sometimes jump back to the top.
How to reproduce
- Load a scrollable page such as https://docs.gitbook.com/creating-content/formatting/inline
- X out of the cookies notification
- Wait a few seconds
- Scroll down.
- Observe that the window jumps back to the very top of the page
It happens roughly 25% of the time. If it doesn't happen the first time, navigate to a different page and try again.
We're reproduced on macs, PCs, and across multiple browsers including Chrome and Safari.
Seems to affect all spaces/docs published on gitbook.
Additional context
Screen recording of the issue. It happens on the second attempt.

Clients are complaining and blaming us. Please fix.
This is extremely annoying, I seem to get it 100% as do our users on every single page...is team planning to address this bug soon? As a long-term paying subscriber, seeing it reported here since over a month ago with no team comments is disappointing.
Hi @masterbrews - Apologies for the radio silence. This has indeed been on our radar, and logged in our backlog, but I don’t have a clear date one when we’ll be able to squash this one. I’ve pinged the team to add some urgency here!
Thanks Addison, appreciated !

Any updates? This is beyond frustrating.
@mmouseenvelope12 Hi there - I’ve been trying to reproduce this on my end with multiple sites but am not seeing the same behavior. Is this only happening after you X out of the cookie banner? Can you link other sites you are facing this issue with?
@addisonschultz Thank you for looking into this. I can reproduce even without X-ing out of the cookie banner, so that doesn't appear related. Try this site. Use incognito so that you can close and reopen the window to force assets to load again. It seems to happen more consistently when there are images being loaded.
@masterbrews Did you find a way to reproduce this more consistently?
@mmouseenvelope12. We have a ticket for this but it seems to be very difficult to replicate. We've tried on multiple computers and browsers. Can you send a screen recording with your console logs to [email protected]? We can then add this to the ticket.
@john-gitbook Thanks John, just emailed it.
Really odd. Only took 3 tries to capture. Everyone who uses our materials has noticed this issue. Multiple devices, multiple OSs, multiple browsers.
