Would love a few UI and workflow tweaks

Nice job on the app.

I've a bit of an odd use case for GiFox.... making repository icons (because the only damned animation that GitLab supports is gif icons...

¯_(ツ)_/¯

BUT.... they have to be <200k.

Which can be... something of a challenge ...

Nevertheless ...

I'd like to be able to:

  • constrain the crop tool to square (maybe opt or control or shift when grabbing a corner handle? )
  • enter width/height in pixels in the crop context

a super neat feature would be to be able to select a section of an image, or the entire image... with the timeline set as desired start/end marks ... and automagically be able to have gifox present me with 'The various options to export this cropped asset as a < 199.999kb artifact' (or insert size here) (dif framerates/pixeldepth etc)

... Even if it renders a bunch of possibilities, and then places them in the

Crap that didn't work ..... but it mighta....

pile

I'd also like to be able to have gifox open the editor by default as opposed to having to have it exporting to $imgformat before I can edit it....

it seems like the only 'open a file' workflow is to drop an asset onto the menu icon

if you have another 'activate program when a file is dragged to the menubar (like unclutter, for example) one has to kill one to be able to use the other .... which is kinda not so awesome.

Hey @wolfspyre, thanks for reporting this and warm feedback, and apologies for the laggy reply. This is indeed a bit of an odd case, but interesting nevertheless.

We plan to ship editor improvements this fall, especially around cropping – the way it works now is far from perfect. More on this and other short-term plans can be found in #299.

It's a really cool idea about multi-export… having some kind of "matrix" option can finally solve the issue with exporting the desired size, which afaik isn't possible and all "estimations" I've seen so far don't really work. Thanks for the hit! I've created a separate internal issue and will have a better think about this.

And also about using Gifox as a default GIF app / editor – this came up a few times in the past, but isn't a trivial task. I've also created a separate issue for this and will see what we can do with this. This would be a useful feature 100%.
